From its pristine waterways to its forward-thinking approach to eco-friendly living, Stockholm, Sweden is a haven for the environmentally conscious traveller. In this guide, I will show how you can make the most of your visit while treading lightly on the planet. So, let’s dive into the world of Sustainable Stockholm! 🇸🇪

Navigating the Green City: Eco-Friendly Transport Options

When it comes to getting around Stockholm, you’re spoilt for choice with sustainable options. From my experience, the city’s public transport system is a dream come true for eco-conscious travellers.

Hop on a Blue Bus

Stockholm’s iconic blue buses are not just a pretty sight, they’re a testament to the city’s commitment to clean energy. As of 2023, over 90% of the city’s buses run on renewable fuels, including biogas and ethanol. I think that’s pretty impressive! Grab a SL-Access card and zip around the city guilt-free.

Pedal Power: Exploring on Two Wheels

In my view, there’s no better way to experience Stockholm than by bike. The city boasts over 760 kilometres of cycle paths, making it a cyclist’s paradise. Rent a bike from one of the many bike-sharing stations dotted around the city, or join a guided bike tour to discover hidden gems while reducing your carbon footprint.

Electric Boat Tours: Cruise Sustainably

From my perspective, Stockholm’s archipelago is a must-see, and you can do it sustainably! Electric boat tours are gaining popularity, offering silent and emission-free cruises through the city’s waterways. It’s a fantastic way to see the sights while respecting the environment.
